A little nervous energy can sharpen focus. Too much, and it clouds the mind. The goal isn't to eliminate anxiety — it's to manage it.
Breathe before you begin
Try box breathing: inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. Two minutes resets a racing heart.
Reframe the feeling
The physical signs of anxiety and excitement are almost identical. Telling yourself "I'm excited" instead of "I'm scared" genuinely improves performance.
Have a plan for the first five minutes
- Read the whole paper first.
- Start with a question you find easy to build confidence.
- Note the marks per question and budget your time.
Prepare so well that calm is earned
Nothing reduces anxiety like genuine readiness. Consistent practice under exam conditions is the best confidence-builder there is.
You've done the work. Breathe, concentrate, triumph.
